How to Choose Between Peachtree Quantum and Quickbooks Enterprise Software

If you're stumped as to which accounting software to choose for your business, there are two products in the mainstream that somewhat rival one another in features. These are Peachtree Quantum and QuickBooks Enterprise. They have many of the same features and capabilities, but there are also notable differences when comparing the two.

Similar Features

Both enable you to simplify certain tasks such as invoicing, customer sales, purchase orders, general ledger tasks, aged payables and more. Both offer customizable reports, easy-to-use spreadsheets, tax preparation aids, online banking integration, payroll capabilities, and multiple users. Another bonus is Peachtree Quantum and QuickBooks Enterprise work well with many other software programs to give you a full scope of functionality within your business. Both are available in versions that are industry-specific, such as distribution, construction, accounting, and non-profit organization.

A Few Differences

Peachtree Quantum enables you to add up to 40 users while QuickBooks Enterprise only allows up to 30 users. With Peachtree, you'll receive Crystal Reports as a bonus. Peachtree can handle more transactions simultaneously, which drastically speeds up productivity in the workplace. Pricing is different as well, with QuickBooks costing slightly more. The Peachtree Quantum software is priced from $2,400 to $11,500 while QuickBooks Enterprise is priced from $3,000 to $13,000. Pricing is dependent on the number of users needed. With Peachtree software, the higher end pricing comes with e-filing.

Comparison in Loading Time Performance

In testing of the Quantum 2010 and QuickBooks Enterprise 9.0, Peachtree's software outperformed Enterprise in most categories when comparing loading/save times. Peachtree Quantum uses SmartPosting technology, which frees individual workstations in multiple user environments by moving certain activities to the server. By using SmartPosting, Quantum users are able to move quickly between various tasks and improve efficiency. It is about 90 percent faster in most tasks than its rival QuickBooks software.

When testing loading time performance, Quantum took the lead in areas such as invoice saves, sales order saves, vendor saves, aged receivables reports, aged payables reports, check register reports, and general ledger reports. The two programs were almost head-to-head in quote saves, item saves, and invoice register reports. There was a drastic loading time difference for general ledger reports, with Peachtree Quantum being much faster.

Both programs have advantages and disadvantages, so it's wise to do a more detailed comparison of your own before making a purchase. It does seem that Quantum is the most economical choice, especially if you have many users. Stores that sell the programs usually offer a number of software products such as MAS90, ACT Software, and more. Peachtree Quantum is produced by Sage Software and QuickBooks Enterprise is by Intuit Enterprise. A free trial can also help you decide.
